project - ISLAMIC ART (4)

assalamu alaikum

Yesterday I drew this up rather quickly and got it to print condition, but then a change of plans stopped me from sending it to the printers so for now it will be added to my collection.
It reads:

- bismi-llāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm -
- In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful -

I will firstly admit this is not my design but the designers name is unknown to me (if you know please let me know). But I really loved the flow of this work everything is perfectly spaced and there is no deviation in the geometry at all. I found a very small photo of this work and just used it to draw up a fresh example in Corel.

Really simple but effective!

project - SPACE SHUTTLE (scale model) COMPLETED

assalamu alaikum

Well its finally finished! The completion was slightly delayed due to other commitments, but now the last bits of glue have dried and its ready for packing! This was a rather simple kit so I used a little artistic licence to make it look more interesting, just by playing with colours, textures etc...
For example I attempted to make the underbelly of the orbiter look like a tiled surface and I tried textured spray paint on the fuel tank to make it look like the foam-like material they use in real life. Over all it came out very decent, (I just hope the client is happy!)

The Photo's!

I enjoyed myself so much that halfway through this build I started to 'complete' an unfinished model I had knocking about so watch this space.

BTW its a B2 stealth Bomber!

project - CONGRATULATIONS CARD

assalamu alaikum

Sorry for the lack of updates but I've had to family come down for the week so we (the family) have been busy have bbq's and get-to-gathers! Plus I've been sorting that shuttle project (almost finished pics tomorrow). Right then onto the topic - recently my cousin from the motherland (Pakistan) aced his exams and increased his GPA to 3.70 (which is very good!!!). So I thought I will put together a card congratulating him.

Now my cousin's main interest is politics and I knew he has ambitions of 1 day being the President of Pakistan so I thought it would be funny to draw a picture of a pretend inauguration (years in the future). The main backdrop is the Pakistan Supreme Court. (fantastic architecture!) The inside is just a little joke really, overall it was well received and put a big smile on his face!

Well Done OMER!!!

project - SPACE SHUTTLE (scale model)

assalamu alaikum

You may not know this but I used to build scale model kits (semi-retired). I had to shelve this hobby to make way for the money making skills to blossom and now that I'm constantly doing graphic based work I haven't the time for models. But when I did make them I wasn't half bad!

An example of my previous work

Well recently I kind of got pulled out retirement to build a commissioned model of the NASA Space Shuttle. The client provided the kit which was a very old (about 15 years) 'Revell Space Shuttle + booster rockets kit '. The model itself is in 1/72 scale or for those that don't know scale = decent size/medium!

I'm not going to be posting a work-in-progress because this is not a modelling forum but I will share with you the end result. So hopefully if all goes to plan this should be completed by the end of this week. See you then!

project - SKREAM ALBUM ARTWORK (personal project)

assalamu alaikum

Although I have fairly strong Islamic beliefs, I do enjoy music particularly dubstep, drum n bass, good quality hip-hop etc etc . . . .

NO CRAP INVOLVING PROFANITY, BITCHES, MURDER, DRUGS blah blah blah

Now when it comes to my itunes library, all my music must always be well organised and every album is complete (most of the time) especially the album artwork. This is very important to me I dunno why it just is!

Well anyways for those who don't know: SKREAM is a dubstep producer based in Croydon (my home town!) He is one of dubstep's first and most prominent producers and has played an important role in the genre's development. (lifted form wiki)

Now Every so often SKREAM releases a selection of tracks for free over the net called 'Freeizm' so far he has released 3 volumes. But these come without any album artwork, so I set about making a set of artworks that can be used in my itunes library.

I designed them using photographs of around Croydon town (seeing as he was based there plus its arguably the birthplace of the genre. Then just used a simple transparency lens over the images to dull them down then added the volume titles using the correct font (HelveticaNeueLT Std Bold Italic) job done!

Freeizm Volume 0
(just for a few singles I had)
Ikea Towers - Purley Way

Freeizm Volume 1
Banksy Ikea graffiti punk - Valley Park

Freeizm Volume 2
Surrey Street Market (where big apple records was located) - Surrey Street

Freeizm Volume 3
Croydon club scene - High Street

Whilst I was doing the above I decided to do a cover for the bonus SKREAMIZM 6 CD found in SKREAMS - album - OUTSIDE THE BOX DELUXE EDITION. I kept this one ultra simple but tried to maintain the design layout of the previous SKREAMIZM's the main inspiration came from the actual print on the CD itself.

- feel free to use the above for your own itunes libraries -
- just don't take credit for my work thanks -

project - MUMS BDAY CARD

assalamu alaikum

Yesterday was my mum's Birthday day, luckily it was a nice day huh?, well anyways I made this card for her, very simple design this year. (from design to manufacture, knocked it out in 45mins) (so I'm getting faster that's for sure!)

I like drawing cubism style flowers so this time I went for a bouquet of octagonal roses. Below I tried to show the stages of the creation of the rose itself.

vector drawing - colour - custom stroke - finishing touches

For the card's basic design I sketched a few hearts on the tablet for a background, then added the rose in a 21 bouquet arrangement. The internal sleeve has a joke pic of a 'mother & child sign' and I added the silver jubilee seal in the top corner to commemorate that my mum has been a mum for 25 years!

Well I must say this quickee really came off nicely, not too busy and elaborate just too the point with enough personal touches, job done!

project - ISLAMIC OCTAGON PATTERN background

assalamu alaikum

After an epic Italian GP I was struggling to find things to do so I decided to create a new background for the blog. I took inspiration from this picture I found on the net. It shows a fountain from the fairly new Museum of Islamic Art, Doha in Qatar.

The actual structure itself is so beautifully designed, it alone is a source of inspiration.
Designed by architect I. M. Pei

I'm undecided on the new background, I'm uncertain of the colours I have used, maybe too dark, too much use of black maybe? Well I shall see hows its goes for know, I may play with the colours later. Give me some suggestions!

project - EID -UL - FITR ORIGAMI SUPRISE

assalamu alaikum

Hope everyone enjoyed their Eid - ul - Fitr celebrations, I know I did!

Over here in London, England me and my family all live fairly close together so when it comes to festive times we can get together with some ease. Every year I try to give nice presents out to my younger cousins, but this year has been quiet busy and couple that with low funds, I had to be creative this year. So instead of just handing out money I thought I'll make some little
'boxes of suprise'.

The box net came together fairly quickly:

Making them was simple enough just a bit of cutting, scoring, bending and some double sided tape did the job. I managed to knock these out whilst watching a film:

Then came the task for me to fill them with something, therefore I decided to use origami objects to make each of the boxes content personal to their recipients, then I would integrate the monies within trying to hide them in some way.

The 1st was for the youngest who is a girl - a little garden of Lillie's

The 2nd was for an amateur businessman - a collection of shirts & briefcase

Lastly the 3rd was for a big fan of the game Call Of Duty MW2 - A jetfighter (Harrier Strike!)

The Trio (overall construction time approx 5hrs - I was working slowely!)

They did take a very long time but came out fantasticly if I say so myself, and the most important thing is that they absolutly loved them! So i guess job well done. Ive really taken to this origami stuff, so expect more origami style projects in the future.

project - EID - UL - FITR CARDS development

assalamu alaikum

Well the month of Ramadan is unfortunately over (yes that is correct I really do enjoy fasting/repenting etc...) & the Festival of Eid - ul - Fitr is apon us once again. Ive been busy for a about 3 weeks designing and constructing some celebration cards to handout to family and friends. This is has been my most advanced design to date. It involved 2 separate pieces coming together and several careful cut lines to allow for certain parts to bend and open out.

This was the initial idea:

Since the Masjid was the main attraction on the front I wanted to dedicate the majority of my time to the design of this piece.

The development process for the Masjid is shown below:

Once this part was complete the remaining parts were finished in no time at all. The next major step was the construction phase.

The build procedure:

Had to then turn the studio into a factory and repeat the procedure about 15 times!
After about 3-5hrs I was finished, below you can see the finished article.

So far the response has been fantastic.

From everyone here at Faz Design Studios we wish you all Eid Mubarak
please make sure you thoroughly enjoy the day!

project - RALPH's BDAY

This is not really a project, but anyways. This Friday will be the birthday of my good friend from Reading, Ralph. He too is a Graphic designer and seems to be doing a rather good job at it as well.

Well when we used to study together he always wore those New Era caps, you all know the ones. So I made a quick spoof for his bday.

Nothing special but then I did knock it out in a couple of Min's while the PS3 updated its self.

Well check out Ralph's:

Some good stuff on there! Keep it up Ralph n Happy B Day mate

project - ISLAMIC ART (3)

assalamu alaikum

This is not my newest work but I thought I may as well share. Very simple use of geometric shapes and simple colour schemes help to emphasises the most important message which is ALLAH!. A true believer's heart jumps at the sound of someone calling out to God, therefore this simple print should remind everyone of that fact!

This is what is says:
- Allāh -

- God -

Various designs are available upon request.
